Used-car appraisal app for Edmonton dealerships

Appraise for Dealers gives Edmonton appraisers a max buy from a VIN, using retail comps from Canadian dealer listings near their rooftop, wholesale grades from Extra clean to Rough, and an OBD scan that flags codes cleared before the trade-in. It is built for northern Alberta conditions: long, deep-cold winters, salt and gravel roads, and high-hour work trucks.

Local conditions

What should Edmonton appraisers watch for?

Edmonton’s winters are longer and colder than the south’s, and many trades have worked hard in the north. Build these into every appraisal.

Long, deep cold

Cold snaps below minus thirty find every weak battery and tired starter. Check battery voltage, cold-start behaviour, block heater cords, and heat and defrost at full output.

Salt that sits

With fewer mid-winter melts than Calgary, salt and grime build up for weeks, then go to work in spring thaws and heated parkades. Look hard at frame rails, rockers and brake lines.

Road-salt checklist

Northern work trucks

Trucks that worked in the oil sands region or the Peace Country bring gravel-road km, mud packed in the frame rails and heavy idle hours. Compare engine hours with km where the truck reports them.

Gravel highways

Long runs on Highways 63 and 43 mean pitted windshields, chipped hoods and sandblasted fronts. On newer vehicles, price windshield replacement with camera recalibration.

Lifted and modified trucks

Bigger tires mean more distance per wheel turn, so the speedometer and odometer under-read unless recalibrated. Ask about tire size history and check the km story.

Emissions deletes

On diesel pickups, check the readiness monitors for the particulate filter and NOx systems. A deleted truck narrows who will buy it, so know before you price it.

Value

How are Edmonton trade-ins priced?

VIN and km in. Appraise decodes the vehicle and prices it against Canadian dealer listings close to your rooftop, not a national average.

  • Same trim and similar km within your search range (300 km by default) first, which covers the Edmonton region from St. Albert and Fort Saskatchewan to Leduc and Spruce Grove, and out to Red Deer
  • Widens to Alberta, then Canada adjusted to Alberta, only when local listings are thin
  • Recently sold listings count ahead of asking prices when there are at least three
  • Wholesale grades from Extra clean to Rough, then your max buy from your own costs

Values are estimates from comparable listings, each with its comp count and a confidence label.

Scan

How does the scan help on high-hour trucks?

Plug a Bluetooth reader into the port under the dash. The scan reads what the dashboard doesn’t show.

  • Distance, warm-ups and minutes since codes were cleared, with a red flag on a recent clear
  • Diesel readiness monitors, including the particulate filter and NOx aftertreatment
  • Total engine run time where the truck reports it, to compare against km
  • Engine computer VIN against the truck’s VIN, and battery voltage

Generic OBD-II reads engine and emissions systems, not airbag, ABS or body modules.

Is the free OBD reader available in Edmonton?

Yes. Free Bluetooth OBD reader with your 14-day trial for the first 25 dealerships, anywhere in Canada, Edmonton included. One reader per dealership, while spots last; book a demo to claim yours.

Do Calgary listings count as comps for an Edmonton car?

It depends on your search range. Calgary is about 280 km from Edmonton: just inside the default 300 km range, outside a 160 km one. Choose 160 km in your rooftop settings for Edmonton-region comps only; every comp shows its city and distance.

Can two rooftops in our group use different rates?

Yes. Labour rate, recon costs, fees and target gross are set per rooftop.

Does it work in the cold?

The app is built for the lot: large buttons you can use with gloves and a high-contrast Lot Mode. BLE readers work in the cold, but phone batteries drain faster, so keep a charger in the appraisal truck.
